D1 FLAG FOOTBALL HITS THE FIELD THIS FALL
Cranbrook, B.C. - A new format of flag football hits the field across the Kootenays this fall as Kootenay Football launches the new D1 Flag Football.
Making the switch from NFL Flag in the fall to the new D1 format, the Kootenay Football League aims to enhance the football experience for youth athletes.
While the gameplay on the field will have a very similar feel, the format and league will offer some new and exciting features including:
Improved Competitive Model
While the focus is still on football development, the implementation of more competitive aspects in the fall aim to give athletes more opportunities to set and achieve goals.
League standings
Simple Stats
Full Games
Weekly and Annual Awards
Adjustment to Sr. Age Group Gr. 7-8 so all communities have same age range.
Schedule Flexibility
The fall is busy with the start of school and other sports on the horizon. With that in mind, the league and its coaches will work to ensure we get meaningful game opportunities without playing all afternoon without breaks!
Sunday gamedays without 3 hours of straight games
Option to flex gamedays to Saturdays
Midweek games vs nearby local teams
Mini Club Model
As the fall league shifts away from NFL Flag and the rotating jerseys each season, it aims to create more consistency year-to-year with brands staying with communities. The league will be using Division 1 brands and marks this fall and look forward to communities leaning into their local teams!
Player shirts/jerseys with numbers
Opportunity to get team gear with brands that remain constant
League Improvements
Kootenay Football continues to enhance the league and opportunities for young athletes including:
More officials on field when possible with less games on simultaneously
Updated website with team pages being launched in September for more information sharing and publicity
Upgraded Kootenay Bowl format Oct. 17-18 as we use regular season standings to develop a more meaningful playoff path. Event will include other fun opportunities for kids to participate in!
